Ducati has opened a new (another) facility in Italy. The building’s name is “Finitura e Delibera Estetica.” In English, it means “finishing and aesthetic resolution.” In other words, the building will complete the final cosmetic details of Ducati’s motorcycles.
The opening was apparently a big deal with the company’s executives and at least one politician. Attending the opening and ribbon cutting ceremony were Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali, Audi CEO and President of Ducati Motor Holding Audi Markus Duesmann, Audi CFO Jürgen Rittersberger, and Matteo Lepore, the Mayor of Bologna.

Commenting on the new building, Ducati CEO Claudio Domenicali said:
“This year has been truly splendid for Ducati, and the inauguration of the new Finitura e Delibera Estetica manufacturing represents yet another moment of pride. This building embodies an investment that brings value to the company but also to the territory in which Ducati operates. The new space will house a strategic phase of production where we focus on the attention to detail and beauty of our motorcycles so that they are perfect when they arrive to our passionate Ducatisti.”

If you are still wondering precisely what Ducati will be doing to the bikes at the new facility? Ducati says:
“…parts such as fairings and covers, which are not assembled on the production line to avoid possible aesthetic damage due to movement of the motorcycles, are put on. Finally, each bike is carefully inspected to ensure that it is perfect from an aesthetic point of view, with the aim of safeguarding the highest quality standards that distinguish Ducati.”
nZEB building
Ducati’s press release also commented on the 4,400 square meter (about 47,360 square feet) facility’s construction. Interestingly, the building is classified as an nZEB (nearly Zero Energy Building). This means that it has almost zero energy requirements because it gets its power from renewable sources.

According to Ducati, much of the facility’s electrical power comes from a 170 kWp solar array on the building’s roof. The setup can produce more than 200 MWh of clean energy per year. In addition, the structure also includes an underground 150 m³ (about 5,300 cubic feet) rainwater storage tank. Ducati will use this water for the facility’s internal industrial processes.
