Talking With The Trans America Trail Creator

[[{“value”:”A few weeks back, we shared Some Guy Rides’ tales of adventure on his Honda Trail 125. One of those adventures he had was a ride along the Trans America Trail, and today’s video is his follow-up to the TAT run.
Sam Correro is the guy behind the Trans America Trail. Starting in the 1980s, he strung dirt roads together on a map, allowing riders to get across the US with minimal pavement usage, all on public roads. While riding the Trans America Trail, our narrator says “I felt Sam had written the Great American Novel with roads instead of words.” So who is Sam, and why did he create this route? As it turns out, there’s not a lot of information, which was the genesis of this video:
When I finished the Trans America Trail in July of 2021, the first thing I wanted to do was to find out more about Sam. It took two years, but … here we go! For me – this was like getting to interview Neil Young or something. Sam is truly a legend – and a super nice guy to boot. Thank you for the most epic adventure of my lifetime Sam!

You can see the official website of the Trans America Trail here, where Sam sells maps, roll charts and GPS tracks for his route. The current east-to-west route is about 5,500 miles long, and the west-to-east return route is another 5,000 miles. You can add even more mileage if you do the southern section as well! Note that Sam is still working on refining his route and adding new sections. And his reason for starting this whole project sounds so… wholesome, in a world that’s filled with over-commercialization:
The real reason behind the TAT is, I wanted somewhere to ride my motorcycle. And I found it, and I wanted to share it. That’s it.
Watch this interview to the end, if you’ve got an itch to do the Trans America Trail yourself sometime—it will leave you even more inspired.
