In&motion is a French company that specializes in airbag systems for motorcycling, horseback riding, and cycling. According to their website, their airbag systems can be found in motorcycle gear from Furygan, Ixon, RST, Klim, Tucano Urbano, and Held. One of their latest products is the Stan airbag backpack, designed for cyclists and ebike riders, and it wouldn’t be a huge leap to imagine Stan adapted to scooter riders or even motorcycle riders in some environments.

The basic principle of Stan is that of a protective backpack with internal sensors that will deploy an airbag that envelops the rider’s head and upper body when a crash is detected. It can be used instead of a helmet, allowing riders to keep their hairstyles and cool heads whether heading to work or the beach. The backpack holds 18 litres, and is water-resistant.

In&motion claims that their airbag system reduces the risk of head trauma by 80%, significantly reducing the intensity of deceleration in an impact. The backpack also has a connected phone application that can alert emergency services in the event of an airbag deployment, a feature found in many automobiles today.

The airbag not only covers the head, but is also designed to protect the back, chest, and neck.
The Stan backpack is not currently available for sale, but the company is taking registrations for a few lucky potential customers to preview and test the product for several months during the spring of 2023.
