It’s hard to believe, but it’s almost here. Not Christmas—the 2023 Dakar Rally!
The world’s biggest desert race kicks off on December 31, and the Red Bull Rally channel is here to work us up into a lathered frenzy of anticipation:
Without a few cans of Red Bull pumped into our system, we’ve managed to keep the lathered frenzy at bay, thankfully. But there is some good stuff to watch on that channel, including a look at the world of privateers at Dakar. So often the factory teams steal the spotlight with a bit of attention thrown to the Malle Moto crowd. The guys and girls who are racing as privateers with no real hope at any kind of podium or other racing glory? They get ignored, usually, which makes this 9-minute look into the privateer world all the better!
A few days earlier, we had this preview of the 2023 race route:
This year, ADVrider’s Front Page will once again feature regular updates on the race’s progress through the wilderness of Saudi Arabia, but as always, the best and most up-to-date info will come from the F5irehose thread when it debuts in the Racing sub-forum! There are some interesting rule changes this year, including bonus time for winning a stage, so perhaps the usual yo-yo strategy of the past decade or so will finally be replaced by an all-out assault on the podium every day. Some off-season personnel changes will also keep things interesting, with Adrien Van Beveren and Ross Branch leaving Yamaha for other teams. Stay tuned, this could be a great Dakar!
