[[{“value”:”Ducati is planning to enter the FIM’s MXGP World Motocross Championship this weekend, with Tony Cairoli behind the handlebars of its Desmo450 MX racebike.
It’s a big step forward for the Italian company, as they go from 0 to 60 on their motocross project. Remember, Ducati only introduced this bike to the public back in January of 2024. Since then, on its very first weekend of competition, the bike took pole and won its first heat, and has continued to impress in competition Italy’s Pro-Prestige MX1 Motocross Championship in the months since.
Now, they’re pushing beyond the regional races to Europe’s MXGP series. The Dutch Grand Prix runs August 17-18, and Tony Cairoli will be there aboard the Desmo450 MX. Will he see success? He’s a nine-time MXGP champ, so he knows what it takes to win, if the bike and his body can handle the stress. Judging by their results so far this year, we expect a strong showing!
So far, with only two rounds left in the Italian championship, Ducati’s Alessandro Lupino leads the overall standings. The next race in that series is over the August 31-September 1 weekend. His stiffest competition? It might be Cairoli, on the other test bike, as Cairoli won the first heat in the Tuscan round…
When can we expect all this hot-rod motocross stuff to trickle down to the consumer? We’ll almost certainly see a clear timeline to customer bikes presented at this fall’s EICMA show. Until then, you can see our initial write-up on the prototype race bike here.
