KTM, the parent company of GASGAS North America, is recalling approximately 231 GASGAS MC250 motorcycles under CPSC recall number: 23-075. Since the bikes are not street legal, this recall comes under the auspices of the US’s Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
Transport Canada is also recalling about 40 of the same motorcycles for the same problem. Transport Canada’s press release for this issue can be viewed by clicking here.
The issue concerns the bike’s CDI box which may have defective programming. KTM says the faulty programming can lead to engine failure, which in turn can lead to crash and injury hazards.
The CPSC does not provide much in the line of detail about the affected motorcycles. However, they describe the affected bikes as follows:
Description: This recall involves 2022 GASGAS MC 250 closed course competition motorcycles. Model number GASGAS MC 250 is printed on the side panel and/or rear fender. GASGAS motorcycles are red with a white GASGAS logo on both sides of the shrouds.
The affected bikes were sold at GASGAS Motorcycle dealers nationwide from December 2021 through August 2022 for about $8,200.
According to KTM, owners of the affected motorcycles should stop riding their bikes immediately and contact an authorized GASGAS motorcycle dealer to schedule a repair. The dealer will replace the entire CDI box free of charge. KTM also says it is contacting all known purchasers directly.
If you are unsure whether your bike is in the recall population, you should contact GASGAS Motorcycles North America toll-free at 888-985-6090. Or in the USA, you may contact the CPSC’s Hotline at 800-638-2772. For motorcycles sold in Canada, owners may contact KTM at 450-441-4451 or go to Transport Canada.
