If you have ever participated in a rally, you know that the rally roadbook is one of your most essential tools. While understanding the roadbook is a vital piece of the puzzle, knowing what the roadbook’s symbols mean is paramount.
With the Dakar Rally just having just ended, we thought we would give you a feel for what the competitors were looking at to help them navigate at off-road speeds that mere mortals cannot comprehend.
Sometimes the symbols speak for themselves. But often, they seem to be in code, so you had better know what they mean. In the best of cases, not understanding what they are trying to tell you can lead to a delay. In the worst case, it could mean a severe or even a deadly crash.
So give this quiz a try to see if you can decipher what these symbols mean. You will likely do well on this quiz if you are already a rally competitor. However, if you have never seen roadbook symbols, you may need to make a lot of guesses.
