How Good Is The Suzuki DR650 In The Dirt? Well…

Just how good is the Suzuki DR650 at dirt bike duty? Turns out, it’s pretty good!
In case you missed our recent DR650/KLR650/XR650L comparo, the basic consensus was this: The Honda is the best dirt bike, the Kawasaki is the best street bike, and the Suzuki fits nicely in the middle… but if you want to modify your DR650, you can make it much more dirt-competent, or much more streetworthy.
Looks like this Australian YouTuber is more than willing to put performance parts on his bike (see the SKIDS n STUFF channel here, for proof), but the real upgrade here is… riding skill. He hasn’t tweaked his machine that much, and you can’t do log hops and serious hill climbs on any 650 without putting practice in. You won’t get the same results unless you put in similar effort, but SKIDS n STUFF is at least willing to share some of his bike setup tips. See below:

If you want more of his off-road footage, here you go!

Of course, keen YouTube fans will remember we’ve seen this before, from another Aussie moto vlogger. Barry Morris has been more than happy to show off the DR650’s capabilities over the years. You might not want to take some of his tongue-in-cheek coverage of the bike too seriously, but he’s flogged a couple of DRs over the years he’s been on YouTube, and shown the machine’s upgradeability and capability off-road quite well.

What’s your take? Do you take your DR into gnarly terrain, or are you perfectly happy with street-oriented tires?
