View this post on Instagram A post shared by Motorcyclist Magazine (@motorcyclistonline) The midsize-plus naked bike category gets hotter thanks to the unveiling of the refreshed Yamaha MT-09 (read the 2024 Yamaha MT-09 Preview article). Engineers dedicated their efforts to enhancing the bike’s visual appeal, refining user interaction, and fine-tuning performance through a meticulous array of adjustments. Here’s everything you need to know about it after riding it.Editor’s note: We test rode the MT-09 upon its last major update during the 2021 Yamaha MT-09 MC Commute Review and Yamaha Builds A Better Triumph – 2021 MT-09 Review articles and videos. We also operated the up-spec SP model during the Yamaha MT-09 SP Review write-up and video. This streetbike has all-new styling for 2024 highlighted by its more improved and YZF-R6-esque LED running lights. It’s powered by Yamaha’s 890cc CP3 engine. This powerplant is water-cooled and has dual-overhead camshafts and a 12-valve cylinder head. It puts out 107 hp to the business end of the M-Spec Bridgestone Battlax S23 tire (read or watch our reviews of this product during the Bridgestone Battlax S23 Motorcycle Tire Review With Videos article). For 2024, the engine benefits from new transmission gears. Fourth, fifth, and sixth transmission gears have been replaced. It has an improved electronic quickshifter that now allows for open-throttle downshifts in addition to full-throttle upshifts. This motorcycle rolls on a pair of 17-inch wheels with triple disc hydraulic brakes and ABS.This motorcycle also benefits from stiffer fork springs and a new linkage ratio to help keep this profile of the bike nice and flat when you’re riding fast through turns. The ergonomics have also been tweaked. This handlebar is lower, has a little more rearward sweep, and the footpegs have been moved back and up, yet they remain adjustable for a rider position based on preference, as is the handlebar. We also have a nice new 5-inch color TFT display and pleasantly chunky switch gear that’s easy to use with gloves. You can pair this display with your smartphone using Yamaha’s Y-Connect app and even get turn-by-turn directions with Garmin’s Streets app software (both are free to download and use with both iOS- and Android-powered devices). We’ll see you in the next episode.
