Magazines hold a special place in our hearts. Many of us have fond memories of digging into a mailbox and finding a new issue of whatever motorcycle mags we had subscribed to, delighted to discover what’s new in the two-wheel world.

After helming American Rider for more than three years, I’ve gained a greater appreciation for the effort it takes to curate a diverse yet consistent blend of stories that illuminate and entertain. I’m also extremely proud of the way our articles are presented in the gorgeous layouts created by art director Chad Cochran that are not attainable in simple web posts.

Over recent years, it’s become impossible not to notice how the magazine market has shrunk. We’ve all become accustomed to the instant gratification offered by articles accessed for free via the internet, making some readers reluctant to re-up subscription dues. Ironically, then we hear people on social media lamenting the demise of their favored publications.

Thankfully, the support we receive from our subscribers and our advertisers is keeping the AR boat afloat, and we will continue producing one of the finest moto magazines in the business.

But we are adapting. We’ve ramped up the content on our website, and we’re expanding our presence on social media via our Facebook and Instagram pages. Please like and follow us on those platforms so you can keep up to date with the latest motorcycle news and features.

As media continues to evolve, the pull of video has become relentless. The attraction of moving pictures accompanied by audio isn’t difficult to understand. After all, watching a video while lounging on a couch requires less effort than reading. While I will always revere well-written and well-edited publications, I must admit to spending many hours watching motorcycle videos on YouTube.

Getting a chance to chat with Norman Reedus about his role in The Bikeriders movie was a special treat. Reedus gained notoriety for his role as Daryl Dixon in AMC’s The Walking Dead, and he hosts the great docuseries Ride With Norman Reedus on AMC and is an avowed motorcycle fan.

With that in mind, I’d like to invite you to surf over to our YouTube page. We currently have 48 videos uploaded for viewing, and I assure you the frequency of new videos will increase as we roll through 2024 and beyond, thanks in part to our team’s expert video editor, Reba Zatz.

We hit a jackpot of viewers through our interviews with key players in the new film The Bikeriders, which received mostly glowing reviews. I was able to sit down for a few minutes and talk to the film’s director, Jeff Nichols, as well as stars Austin Butler, Tom Hardy, Jodie Comer, and Norman Reedus. I also got a chance to meet the film’s stunt coordinator, Jeff Milburn, who we profiled in AR’s December 2023 issue.

If you’re intrigued by this movie, don’t hesitate to see it. It’s a terrific piece of cinema with some wonderful acting, especially by Hardy and Comer – I wouldn’t be surprised if they receive nominations for some awards shows. The fact that there are a bunch of cool 1960s-era motorcycles in the film is just a cherry on top!
