This 1971 BMW R75/5 was refurbished in 2017 with work that included a repaint in black in addition to rebuilding the cylinder heads. It is powered by a 745cc opposed twin paired with a four-speed transmission and is finished in black with white pinstriping. Equipment includes an enclosed driveshaft, both kick and electric starters, a dual exhaust system, dual Bing carburetors, 19″ front and 18″ rear wire-spoke wheels, a grab bar, a left-side lift-assist handle, both center and side stands, Krauser panniers, and a black vinyl-upholstered two-up seat. This R75/5 is now offered at no reserve by the seller on behalf of its current owner with with an owner’s manual, service records, a tool kit, and a clean California title in the owner’s name.

The bike has been refinished in black with white pinstripes, and stainless-steel hardware has been fitted. Equipment includes a grab bar, a left-side lift-assist handle, both center and side stands, Krauser panniers, and a black vinyl-upholstered two-up seat. Oil stains are noted on the front brake plate. A left-side mirror was installed in preparation for the sale. The seller notes keys for the steering lock, seat lock, and luggage locks are included with the sale.

Wire-spoke wheels measure 19″ front and 18″ rear and were mounted with 3.25″ front and 4.00 Avon Speedmaster tires in July 2024, and the fork seals were replaced at that time. Stopping power is provided by front and rear drums. Suspension consists of a leading-axle fork as well as dual shocks mounted to the swingarm on the left and the final-drive enclosure on the right.

The handlebar is mounted to the upper triple clamp via a pair of risers that frame the adjustment knob for a steering damper. The headlight nacelle houses a MotoMeter combination gauge, which contains a 120-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,800-rpm redline. The five-digit odometer shows 36k miles, approximately 500 of which were ridden under current ownership.

The 745cc opposed twin features both kick and electric starters, a dual exhaust system with a crossover tube, and dual Bing carburetors. Factory-rated output was 50 horsepower and 44 lb-ft of torque. The heads were rebuilt and fitted with leaded fuel valve seats in 2017 by Ted Porter’s Beemer Shop. Work in 2024 included changing the fluids, rebuilding and balancing the carburetors, and replacing the battery.

Power is sent to the rear wheel through a four-speed transmission and a driveshaft enclosed within the right leg of the swingarm.

The number 2974515 stamped on the engine case matches the numbers stamped on the frame and steering headstock tag, photos of which can be viewed in the gallery.
