FortNine vs. The DR650

ADVrider.com

ADVrider isn’t universal in its love for the Suzuki DR650, but there are a lot of inmates who are very much enamored with Suzuki’s retro dual sport. Apparently, this is also the case at the FortNine YouTube channel. It looks like their crew is also evenly split on the “This bike is so sensible, it’s amazing!” vs. the “Oil-cooled machines are for The Poors” divide.
Watch that video above, and you’ll see a lot of the same themes we discussed back in 2022, in Volume 3 of the ADVrider print magazine. In that issue, we talked about why the DR650 was so popular with so many riders: It’s basic, it’s easy to work on, and riders can modify it into just about anything they want, from a trackday-friendly supermoto to a mile-eating internal combustion-powered burro.
On the ADVrider forum, we have many threads about the DR650, but the biggest is the not-so-imagineatively-titled “DR650 thread.” At time of writing, there are 308,285 posts in that thread since inmate Sleepy Wombat kicked things off on February 20, 2006 with these words:
there are hundereds of threads on the dr650 so why not have a meeting point for all dr riders in one place, ask questions, ride reports, pics, modifications that do and dont work, new gear that becomes available etc etc etc…… we have to show the klr guys what we are all about !!!:clap
Want to know how to fix your DR? What accessories work well? ADVrider’s Thumpers sub-forum has the answers, and they’re mostly in that thread.
