Flying Brick to Fighter Jet: BMW K1100 “Top Gun”

Jet Fighter-inspired K1100 Street Tracker from Moto Adonis…
Nearly a decade after the introduction of the original K-bikes in 1984, BMW released the K1100LT and K1100RS — the biggest and most powerful “Flying Bricks” ever to come out of the Berlin factory. The inline-four engines had been punched out to 1093cc, featuring 16-valve heads from the K1, lighter pistons for reduced reciprocating mass / vibration, and a max output of 100 horsepower.

Cycle World called the LT “the first real alternative to Honda’s Gold Wing in years,” while the RS sport-tourer impressed reviewers with its cruise missile-like aplomb at high speed and serious lean.
“In overall competence from my adult, civilized perspective, the K1100RS just smokes all those other horsepower-heavy monster bikes… The four-cylinder K-bike feels like it’s truly in touch with the top of the line BMW automotive philosophy: fast, ultra competent handling machines that are pragmatic, reserved in style and designed for the wealthy enthusiast.” –Motorworld, via K11OG.org

Thirty years later, some of these big K bikes are coming out of retirement, stripped down and leaned out in the hands of workshops like Holland’s Moto Adonis. In this case, the client was looking for a machine “infused with the essence of a fighter jet,” meaning “sleek lines and bold aesthetics.”

We especially love the repositioned tank, handmade side covers, and removable pillion cover for the Miller Kustom seat — best of both worlds! Other highlights include a set of Ducati Hypermotard forks, Sidewinder rear monoshock conversion, custom stainless undertail exhaust with hand-crafted silencers, and a full suite of Motogadget electronics.

The 21st-century upgrades, angular lines, and brutalist engine remind us of “5th-gen” multirole jet fighters like the F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II, which combine advanced stealth, supercruise performance, and highly advanced C3 (command, control, and communications) capabilities.
Below, we get the full details on the build from Arthur Renkema of Moto Adonis.
Top Gun: In the Builder’s Words

Our assignment: a bike infused with the essence of a fighter jet. The challenge set for this BMW K1100 was clear — a design inspired by the sleek lines and bold aesthetics of high-performance aircraft. Translating this vision from the computer screen to reality, our journey began.

The transformation commenced with an adjustment to the tank’s stance, imbuing it with a more aggressive angle. Handcrafted tank side covers followed suit, boasting sharp, aggressive lines that echoed the precision of a fighter jet.

The rear frame and a removable passenger seat cover, perfect for tandem rides, were hand-shaped to complement the overall design. Adding to the bespoke nature, a custom stainless steel exhaust system with handcrafted mufflers was built, along with a custom air intake, Sidewinder suspension, and Ducati Hypermotard front fork. A full MotoGadget system completed the technological ensemble.

At Moto Adonis, our commitment to excellence extends beyond aesthetics to the components we meticulously select. This build features a MotoGadget speedo, DNA pod filters, MotoGadget handgrips, Powerbrick foot controls, Highsider headlight and a bespoke leather seat by the talented Mr. Miller (Miller Kustom Upholstery).

This Fighter Jet / Top Gun-inspired bike stands as a testament to our unwavering dedication to crafting motorcycles that not only captivate with their visual allure but also deliver an exhilarating punch on the road.
