2024 Suzuki Boulevard M109R and Boulevard C50 Cruisers Preview

(Suzuki/)As Suzuki has continued to shift its focus to sport, standard, and adventure-biased new motorcycles over the last year, it’s become apparent that the brand’s Boulevard cruiser portfolio is feeling the effects of that reshuffling. For proof, look no further than the latest 2024 returning model announcement, in which Suzuki cites just two cruiser bikes, the M109R power cruiser and the C50 classic cruiser, that are returning to the US lineup—both unchanged mechanically. (Suzuki/)2024 Suzuki Boulevard M109R | $15,699Let’s start with the big M109R, which still rocks some of the largest-diameter reciprocating gasoline engine pistons currently used in any production car or motorcycle. The huge, coffee can-size, 112mm forged aluminum-alloy pistons pumping away in those liquid-cooled cylinders haven’t changed much since the burliest Boulevard burst onto the US cruiser scene back in 2006. But then, they’re working within a 1,783cc liquid-cooled DOHC V-twin good for a claimed 128 hp and 118 lb.-ft. of torque and channeling it out to a monster 240-series rear tire, so Suzuki probably figured an upgrade was unnecessary. In keeping with the oversize theme, the M109R sports a 46mm inverted fork as well as dual disc brakes with radial-mounted calipers up front but, unfortunately, still no ABS to better help control the 764-pound bike.The engine and large-diameter exhausts shine with all the requisite chrome you’d expect to see on a custom cruiser, though the drag-style handlebar and fat 240 rear rubber might seem more at home on the dragstrip. The M109R’s styling is definitely a love-it/hate-it proposition, with the alien-looking bullet headlight nacelle matched by an equally swoopy (and removable) tail cowl, and forward controls to sell the aggressive attitude. For 2024, you can only get it in Glass Sparkle Black, and the paint is highlighted by deep chrome on the edge of the fork-mounted nacelle that carries through to the staggered dual-pipe exhaust. For this, you’ll pay $100 more than last year’s MSRP, or $15,699.2024 Suzuki Boulevard C50 | $9,199Traditional, reliable, and affordable, the C50 middleweight returns the Boulevard lineup for 2024 also unchanged. They call this color Candy Daring Red. (Suzuki/)Another stalwart in Suzuki’s cruiser lineup for more than a decade is the bike formerly known as the Volusia, which has cruised the byways for over 20 years. This more classic Boulevard V-twin carries on into 2024 with all the old-timey features that cemented its status among traditional middleweight cruisers, including a kicked-out fork, full fenders, and chromed, dual exhausts. Wire-spoked wheels and a low and wide 27.6-inch saddle are accompanied by forward-biased floorboards, wide handlebar, and lots of chrome, which means you’ll be better off going on a mellow cruise in the countryside rather than a straight-line drag race.The under-$10K price tag gets you all the basics, like a liquid-cooled 805cc 45-degree V-twin that puts down a claimed 53 hp and 52 lb.-ft. of torque, fuel injection, and a five-speed transmission with shaft drive to keep maintenance to a minimum.
