Suzuki Will Build An Electric Motorcycle In 2024

Looks like Suzuki is working hard on its first electric motorcycle, with plans to release it next year!
So says a document from the company laying out its growth strategy through 2030. You can see the whole document here; there’s some interesting reading all through it, but much of it has to do with the company’s automobiles, which are no longer available in North America.
The two most relevant quotes are here:
Based on the target date set by each government, Suzuki aims to achieve carbon neutrality in Japan and Europe by 2050 and in India by 2070.
We will continue to strive to achieve our carbon neutral goals for each region, based on our mindset to expand our customers’ choices and deliver products and services that meet the needs of each region.
And here:

Motorcycles
For small and mid-sized motorcycles, which are used for daily transportation such as commuting to work, school or shopping, we will introduce a battery EV in FY2024. We plan to launch 8 models by FY2030 with a battery EV ratio of 25%. For large motorcycles for leisure purposes, we are considering adopting carbon neutral fuels.
Now, that could actually mean we’re going to see a battery-powered scooter, like Suzuki’s Japanese competition has already released. Either way, it doesn’t sound like we can expect an electric sportbike or anything like that. The plan indicates Suzuki will introduce a battery bike in 2024, with eight commuter-friendly electric machines in the lineup by 2030. And, most interestingly, Suzuki plans to use so-called “carbon-neutral fuels” for big bikes.
Does that mean we will soon see e-fuel engines in Suzuki bikes? Sounds like it. We’ve heard that idea before; see @Baldy’s interview about this subject here.
The rest of the story
This certainly explains some of Suzuki’s plan to abruptly exit MotoGP last summer, as Suzuki must be pivoting very quickly towards electric motorcycles. The rest of Suzuki’s FY2030 plan contains other notes on future strategies for carbon-neutral factories and more—see the whole thing here.
