Will this be its last year? Suzuki’s SV650 ABS is back in the 2024 street lineup unchanged. (Suzuki/)Earlier this fall, Suzuki swayed much of the industry’s attention to its new GSX-8S and 8R middleweights, but the brand’s latest announcement concerns returning new motorcycles, most notably, the storied SV650 naked bike. Yep, much to our surprise, the crusty all-arounder will be back on Suzuki’s books in its 2024 streetbike lineup, and only in ABS form. We say “surprised” because despite the SV’s legendary status as a dead-reliable, fun-loving standard, Suzuki hasn’t given it any major updates since 2017, and with the advent of the new P-twin GSX bikes this year, we thought for sure the 2023 SV would be the end of the line.Related: 2023 Suzuki SV650 ReviewThe 2024 SV650 ABS comes dressed in Glass Sparkle Black accented with frame and wheels in dark-gold metallic paint, just like the 2023 bike. (Suzuki/)For the 2024 SV650 ABS, then, it’s one more year of the same classic styling and easy-riding 645cc liquid-cooled V-twin engine. The 90-degree setup makes for solid bottom-end power and serves up an excellent exhaust soundtrack, and is good for around 69 hp at the business end of the 160-series rear tire. The engine is hung in an aesthetically pleasing steel-trellis-type frame, and the svelte design translates to a nimble machine that’s still good for a memorable romp in the twisties.Despite its more dated suspension components, the SV’s nonadjustable telescopic fork and linkage-equipped preload-adjustable shock feel more sporty than its other middleweight competitors, and the bike continues to bring an impressive combination of power, character, and size. As before, dual discs with four-piston calipers slow the midsize naked up front, with a single-piston caliper acting on a single disc out back.Which brings us to the differences on the 2024 model year bikes: Zero. Even this year’s Glass Sparkle Black bodywork with dark gold frame and wheels color scheme is straight-up pilfered from the 2022 bike, and yes, there’s still the old-school halogen bulb setup up front (though the taillight is LED). We’re thinking all that’s forgivable though, given the SV’s impending retirement. For 2024, Suzuki is giving us the SV650 only in this one color, and only with ABS included (which is a fixed, always-on system). That said, with an MSRP of $7,949, it’s only $100 more than last year’s ABS model, so the SV continues to be a great value in the class.2024 Suzuki SV650 ABS Technical Specifications and Price
