Overview

Honda considers the CBR500R a “light middleweight” sportbike with its 471cc parallel-twin engine. This bike was originally launched all the way back in 2013 and has stood the test of time as a fun, affordable, and frugal sportbike.

For 2024, the CBR500R receives a handful of updates. Topping that list is the new CBR1000RR-R-inspired bodywork, which gives the bike a totally up-to-date look and one that ties into the current CBR family perfectly. Honda’s Selectable Torque Control (traction control) is now standard, while the ECU received new settings to improve “acceleration feel.” In the cockpit is a brand-new 5-inch full-color TFT display that also offers Bluetooth connectivity for smartphones with Honda’s RoadSync app. Additionally, the headlight has been upgraded with an LED unit.

The CBR’s engine is a liquid-cooled parallel twin with double overhead cams and four valves per cylinder. It utilizes Honda’s PGM-FI fuel injection system. Chassis highlights include the Showa 41mm inverted Separate Function Fork Big Piston fork (SFF-BP) with 4.7 inches of travel and a Showa monoshock out back that has provisions for five steps of preload adjustment.

A low 31.1-inch seat height ensures that a large range of riders will be able to firmly get their feet on the ground at stops, while the light 421-pound (fully fueled) weight makes the bike very manageable.
