1978 Moto Guzzi 850 Le Mans

This 1978 Moto Guzzi 850 Le Mans is powered by an 844cc OHV V-twin equipped with a pair of Dell’Orto flat-top pumper carburetors, an auto-adjusting camshaft chain tensioner, and a dual exhaust system consisting of Cerakoted headpipes and Lafranconi Silenziatori mufflers. The bike is finished in red with black accents and is further equipped with a five-speed transmission, an enclosed driveshaft, triple Brembo disc brakes, Ikon shocks, an electric starter, an electronic ignition, a headlight fairing, a smoked windscreen, clip-on handlebars, an aftermarket two-up seat, and Agostini rear-set foot controls. The bike was acquired by the seller in 2009, reportedly from its original owner in North Carolina, and service in preparation for the sale included replacing the fuel lines, transmission seals, clutch plates, and spark plugs. This Le Mans is now offered with service records, owner’s and workshop manuals, spare and removed parts, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The bike was refinished in red with black accents under previous ownership, and later-model replacement side covers with 850 Le Mans badges and tricolore emblems were painted to match by the seller. Equipment includes a headlight fairing, a tinted windscreen, an aftermarket stepped two-up seat, reproduction turn signals, Agostini rear-set foot controls, folding passenger foot pegs, and both center and side stands. Close-up photos that depict a ding in the upper-right side of the fuel tank along with various instances of corrosion on the frame where the paint has been scratched or scraped can be viewed in the gallery.

FPS 18″ cast alloy wheels are mounted with Metzeler Lasertec tires. Suspension consists of a conventional telescopic fork that was rebuilt using replacement stanchions and FAC air dampers as well as a pair of preload-adjustable Ikon shocks mounted to the swingarm on the left and the final drive housing on the right. Braking is provided by replacement Brembo calipers over dual 310mm cross-drilled rotors up front and a single 242mm cross-drilled rotor at the rear. The brake master cylinders have been rebuilt and fitted with braided stainless-steel lines.

Clip-on handlebars equipped with dual mirrors, bar-end weights, a Crampbuster throttle lock, and a Tommaselli Daytona 2C dual-pull throttle assembly are secured below a top triple clamp that accommodates the adjustment knob for a piston-type steering damper which spans the lower triple clamp and a crossmember between the frame downtubes. The black plastic dash pod houses a Veglia Borletti tachometer with an 8k-rpm redline, a matching 160-mph speedometer, and warning lamps for neutral gear selection, high and low beams, oil pressure, and charging status. The five-digit odometer shows 34k miles, 8k of which were ridden by the seller. The horn is inoperative.

The 844cc OHV V-twin has been fitted with an auto-adjusting camshaft chain tensioner and is equipped with replacement Nikasil-lined cylinders, an electric starter, an electronic ignition system, and a pair of 36mm Dell’Orto PHF carburetors with flat-top conversion kits, flip-up choke levers, and pod filters. Dual Cerakoted headpipes flowi into black-finished upswept Lafranconi Silenziatori mufflers. The battery was replaced under current ownership.

Power is sent to the rear wheel through a five-speed transmission and an enclosed driveshaft. The transmission seals and the clutch plates were replaced in preparation for the sale.

The bike is accompanied by service records, owner’s and workshop manuals, and spare and removed parts that include a smoked windscreen, side covers, a side stand, a seat, foot pegs, foot levers, and velocity stack screens.
The bike is titled by the vehicle identification number VE77014, which is stamped on the steering stem data plate and is also listed on the California title as the bike’s engine number. Engine number VE077014 stamped on the engine case and a redacted photo of the California title can be viewed in the gallery.
